MRB Group Planner Angelina White Elected to APA Chapter Board

MRB Group President & CEO Ryan Colvin, PE, announced the recent election of Planning Associate Angelina White to the Board of Directors of the Genesee-Finger Lakes Section of the American Planning Association (APA) New York Upstate Chapter.

The APA is a peer professional organization for planners with origins dating back to the early 20th century.   It was formed in 1978 through the consolidation of the American Institute of Planners and the American Society of Planning Officials, with a mission to “…advance the art and science of planning and the activity of planning — physical, economic, and social — at the local, regional, state and national levels.”

In its most widely recognized role, the APA provides a professional institute, known as the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), and is responsible for the national certification of professional planners.

“It means so much to me to serve as a Director for our local section,” said White.

“As an At-Large Director, I can bring to the Board my evolving experience as a planner on the SmarterLocalGov team at MRB Group.  Working directly with communities, I benefit from exposure to the challenges they face.  That will be valuable information for my planning peers,” she continued.

While a student at University at Buffalo, White was actively involved as a member of the Western New York Division of APA.  She was recognized with a Best Practices Award for an Outstanding Student Project by the New York Upstate Chapter of APA in 2020.  White believes the APA’s influence at that time on her career path also helped prepare her for her current leadership role.  She plans to dedicate significant focus to recruitment and membership with the APA, creating professional development events and opportunities for new planners to gain similar valuable exposure.

“We are extremely proud of Angelina’s achievement within this highly respected organization,” said Colvin.

White joined MRB Group in 2020, as part of the firm’s SmarterLocalGov initiative.  She is heavily involved in the firm’s long-range planning and design practice, helping communities to define their vision, and putting actionable strategies in place to support sustainable growth and development.

MRB Group is a multi-disciplinary engineering, architecture, planning and municipal services firm, serving as a trusted partner to local governments throughout New York State, South Carolina and Texas.  For more information, visit www.mrbgroup.com.
