Easley’s New UDO: Planning for Growth with Purpose
Easley is growing quickly—over 200 acres annexed and 2,000 housing units approved in just a few years. With that momentum comes responsibility. That’s why the City of Easley, with support from MRB Group, has developed a new Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) to guide growth responsibly.
The UDO replaces outdated, piecemeal regulations with a clear, modern framework that:
- Reduces residential densities to protect infrastructure and community character
- Updates lot sizes and configurations to better manage traffic, utilities, and open space
- Streamlines rules into a single, more enforceable document
As Mayor Lisa Talbert said:
“I am extremely excited for the future of the City of Easley with the adoption of a new Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). Many dedicated individuals have poured their time, thought, research, and passion into this effort … I would also like to thank Rico Giani, and MRB Group for their extensive research and detailed work … This new ordinance gives us a clear guide for Easley’s future — one that will help us grow responsibly, preserve the character of our community, and keep the heart of what makes Easley a place we are proud to call home.” https://www.foxcarolina.com
Some have raised concerns about timing and infrastructure capacity. But this process has been deliberate—15 months of work, with input from public meetings, a steering committee, stakeholders, and the Planning Commission. Growth pressures make action necessary now, and the UDO provides a strong, adaptable foundation.
At MRB Group, our role is to help communities like Easley balance opportunity with quality of life. The UDO reflects Easley’s commitment to smart, sustainable growth—protecting what makes the city unique while preparing for the future.
