Planning for Public Safety: Gatesville Charts a Path Toward a New Police Facility

June 30, 2025

As communities grow, so do the demands placed on public safety services. In Gatesville, Texas, city leaders recognized a critical need: their Police Department had simply outgrown its longtime home.

The existing facility—designed decades ago—no longer meets modern policing needs. Offices are cramped, evidence storage is inadequate, HVAC systems are aging, and the building lacks key safety and security features. Gatesville knew it was time to evaluate long-term solutions, and MRB Group was proud to support that process.

A Strategic Approach to Facility Planning

Beginning in fall 2024, MRB Group partnered with the City to assess two possible paths forward:

  1. Renovation and addition at the current location, and

  2. New construction on a greenfield site at 2525 Osage Road.

Our team developed detailed programming for both options, including conceptual floor and site layouts, and prepared Opinions of Probable Cost (OPC) to guide the City’s decision-making. In-depth assessments considered spatial needs, site constraints, parking, and future scalability.

The Preferred Site: 2525 Osage Road

Ultimately, the City selected the new site adjacent to Gatesville ISD. This location provides greater flexibility for layout and security, improved access to schools, expanded parking, and better alignment with Gatesville’s future growth.

With a clear path forward, MRB Group continued working with City officials to refine the design and bring the project within an updated budget. We’re also supporting their funding strategy, including grant applications through USDA programs to help bring the vision to life.

“It’s served its purpose… and now it’s time to move on and continue going forward.”
– Lieutenant Sid Post, Gatesville Police Department

Building for the Future

We’re proud to support the City of Gatesville in developing a modern, efficient, and community-oriented facility that will serve law enforcement and residents for years to come.

At MRB Group, we believe that good facility planning is about more than buildings—it’s about aligning design with mission, budget, and long-term goals. We thank Gatesville for its partnership and commitment to public safety.
