Ensuring Compliance with Texas Accessibility Standards

When planning a new construction project or assessing an existing structure, ensuring compliance with accessibility standards is crucial. We offer expert guidance, inspection, and consulting services to help you meet all requirements outlined by the Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Our team of certified Registered Accessibility Specialists (RAS), licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), is committed to making the compliance process straightforward, efficient, and hassle-free for architects, developers, property owners, and contractors.

What is a Registered Accessibility Specialist?

A Registered Accessibility Specialist (RAS) is licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to ensure construction projects meet all accessibility requirements as outlined in the Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS). These standards are a state-mandated version of the ADA guidelines, specifically tailored for projects in Texas. Whether your project involves new construction, renovations, or additions, a RAS can assist in:

  • Conducting plan reviews to confirm compliance before construction begins.
  • Performing thorough on-site inspections during and after the build process.
  • Advising on modifications necessary for TAS and ADA compliance.

Working with a Registered Accessibility Specialist ensures your project aligns with all legal requirements, avoiding potential delays, fines, or costly retrofitting.

What are Texas Accessibility Standards?

The Texas Accessibility Standards are a set of guidelines established by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to ensure that buildings and facilities in the state of Texas are accessible to individuals with disabilities.TAS encompasses various aspects of accessibility, including building design, construction, and renovation, with the goal of providing equal access to all individuals regardless of their physical abilities.

These standards are based on the 1990s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility guidelines and are administered by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). Every project worth over $50,000 has to be reviewed prior to construction for proper accessibility. MRB Group can help you register your project and we can provide the necessary plan review that must be filed with the TDLR prior to construction. Once the project is completed, MRB Group can also perform the final inspection and upload all documents to TDLR.
