Corey Hurley Named APWA’s Young Leader of the Year
The Genesee Valley Branch of the New York Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) recently selected MRB Group team member Corey Hurley to receive its prestigious Myron Calkins Young Leader of the Year Award.
MRB Group President and CEO Ryan Colvin congratulated Hurley, and shared the news with staff.
“We are extremely proud of Corey and his rapid growth and achievement in the professional arena,” said Colvin. “When Corey began working with us as an intern from RIT just five years ago, we quickly realized his tremendous potential and invited him to be a member of our team. We’re fortunate that he chose to advance his career at MRB Group,” Colvin stated.
“This important recognition by fellow engineers, municipal staff and industry professionals is based on merit,” said Colvin. “We congratulate Corey for earning this significant achievement.”
Hurley was recognized during an awards presentation held on January 30, 2025.
The Genesee Valley APWA Branch represents Chemung, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Schyler, Seneca and Wayne Counties. Its members include public works professionals, engineers, contractors and vendors with years of institutional knowledge and expertise.
The Myron Calkins Young Leader of the Year Award recognizes young APWA members who have demonstrated commitment to both the profession and the association, and who have shown potential for future growth.
“The award promotes the concept that length of career does not necessarily indicate leadership abilities or potential for service,” stated Paul Chatfield, Chairman of the Genesee Valley APWA Awards Committee.
“Corey has grown professionally and personally. He has embraced every assignment from Construction Observation of multi-million-dollar infrastructure projects, to field investigation for crucial preliminary design work. Corey has particularly developed his professional skills in the discipline of Stormwater Management, including the design of conveyance systems, technical calculations of grading and earthwork analysis, and the review of Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems,” Chatfield stated as he introduced Hurley.
Hurley was further recognized for his strong contributions to the organization, assisting with communication and serving as Branch Secretary since 2022.
“He is a visible and vocal supporter of the Genesee Valley Branch APWA and provides a clear example of the future leadership of this organization,” Chatfield concluded.
“We are confident in Corey’s continued success as part of the MRB Group team, and look forward to his many future accomplishments,” Colvin stated.
