Yates Town Park
MRB Group was retained by the Town of Yates to re-envision Yates Town Park as part of the Governor’s Lake Ontario Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative (REDI). As a result of high water levels and flooding in 2017 and 2019, the park has experienced substantial erosion and scouring along the shoreline and standing water due to poor runoff conditions.
MRB Group developed a conceptual park design that included integrative stormwater management, landscape architecture, and green infrastructure improvements to the shoreline and interior, including the construction of a car-top kayak launch and an ADA-compliant lookout point (pier).
Features of the park’s interior include:
- Active and passive recreation opportunities
- New playground
- Ten-foot wide pedestrian nature trail around the perimeter of the park
- Pavilion with accessible bathroom facilities
The gardens are located adjacent to the parking areas and consist of native plantings specifically designed to address the park’s ponding and standing water challenges. Interpretive signage integrated along the waterfront, trail, and within the rain gardens will promote the town’s resilience strategy and provide learning opportunities for residents and visitors.
