UMHB Curtis Mansion
The University of Mary Hardin Baylor entered into a design contract with MRB Group’s architects to prepare documentation to renovate the first floor of the 120-year-old historic Curtis Mansion at the university’s entrance. MRB Group’s designers provided plans for offices, a conference room, stairs, and an ADA-compliant ramp to serve the back entrance.
These planned changes came immediately after the completion of the rebuilt exterior, which included repointing, foundation repairs, a roof, and extensive historical detailing of the facades.
The scope of work included the following:
- As-built, field measure, and prepare working drawings of the complete interior of the mansion
- Prepare code analysis and apply historic restrictions to the proposed redesign
- Renovate the first floor’s interior for campus planning and urban design team
- Complex redesign of the electrical supply to and through the historic structure and New HVAC to serve the entire building
- New code-compliant stair and ADA ramp system to access the ground and second floor from the existing parking lot level
