Spiegel Pittsford Community Center
The Spiegel Center is currently located in a 1916 school building that has been lightly modified over the years. The town envisioned an upgraded facility that respects the history of the building and the village setting but also looked toward the future of the town. New spaces for seniors and youth were designed as well as upgrades to all program and office spaces. The
new entry and lobby addition provide a welcoming space for residents of all ages to relax.
The project is located in the Historic Village of Pittsford District and required SHPO approval. During this approval process, it was noted by the SHPO review team that the sensitive nature of the renovation and the thoughtful design of the addition, its proportion, materials, and connection to the existing building were an “excellent example of how an adaptive reuse of an existing building should be approached
Big Idea
Adapting an existing historic community library to become a “product of its day.”
