Pole Bridge Road Retaining Wall

Following a significant rain event on June 18, 2025, a roughly 100-foot section of road embankment along Pole Bridge Road in the Town of Avon, NY, was washed out, causing debris to flow into Little Conesus Creek. The erosion compromised the road’s guardrail and forced the Town to temporarily close the road for public safety. In response, MRB Group and Villager Construction Inc. were engaged under an emergency services contract to design and implement a solution to stabilize the embankment and restore access.

Working in collaboration with geotechnical consultant Foundation Design, PC, Villager Construction excavated the damaged area to locate a stable rock shelf that could support a new retaining wall. Once a suitable foundation was identified, a 7.5-foot-tall, engineered retaining wall was designed and constructed using Stone Strong precast blocks supplied by Lakelands Concrete Products, Inc. of Lima, NY. The presence of overhead power lines directly above the failure zone added complexity to the repair effort, requiring careful coordination and execution.

Despite the challenges, the project was completed in approximately three months from the date of the storm, successfully restoring the embankment and allowing the road to be reopened to the public.
