Penfield Department of Public Works
Since 2017, MRB has been collaborating with the Town of Penfield on site feasibility studies and building design for a new Department of Public Works facility. The facility is currently under construction.
Situated on the Town’s existing DPW grounds, the newly designed campus will include a new highway garage, a salt barn, sand barn, pole barn, topsoil barn, and an above-ground fuel station. Since most of the existing facilities will be demolished as part of this project, complex site planning and phasing is key to ensuring that all facilities can be fully operational while construction occurs.
The new garage building is designed as a single-entrance, single-exit facility and is programmed to include a 26-vehicle main parking garage, a four-vehicle maintenance garage with a large crane and multiple lifts, and separate areas for the Parks Department and Animal Control. The space will also include administrative spaces for staff offices, a conference room, a large breakroom, a staff locker area, and restrooms.
Extensive site work is needed to address problematic soils, wetland preservation, utility relocations, and significant grade changes.
