Marriott Renaissance Albany

Originally constructed in 1927, the DeWitt Clinton provided upscale accommodations across the street from the State Capitol. The Hotel had a reputation as a high-profile destination, especially amongst both state and federal lawmakers and politicians visiting the Capitol. Shortly after hotel operations ceased in 1975, the historic building was converted into low-income housing. Columbia Development purchased the historic building in 2006 to revitalize the DeWitt Clinton as a hotel once again. The complex rehabilitation, due to historic standards, and approximately $1.6 million in environmental remediation, put the project on hold for several years. The renovation resumed in 2014 with the assistance of grants and historic tax credits.

Completed in October 2015, the Renaissance Albany reopened its doors as a full-service, lifestyle, luxury hotel by Marriott. The 200,000 sf hotel features 203 rooms, a full-service restaurant, banquet, and event space. Located across from the Capitol, the hotel is within walking distance to the Empire State Plaza, the NYS Legislative Office Building, the Hudson River, and will also be attached to the future Albany Capital Center.

Big Idea

To transform a long-underutilized historic building into a modern luxury hotel that strengthens downtown Albany, supports tourism, and complements surrounding civic investments.
