Genesee Valley Sanitary Sewer Pump Station
Originally constructed in the 1920s, the Joseph C. Wilson Sanitary Trunk Sewer had been experiencing peak sanitary flows that regularly exceeded its 4.6 MGD capacity, with documented sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) reaching as high as 7.54 MGD. To address these conditions, Monroe County Pure Waters authorized MRB Group, through an Engineering Planning Grant, to complete a study and Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) for the Genesee Valley Park Pump Station project.
The PER recommended construction of a new pump station and force main connection to the nearby 54-inch Gates-Chili-Ogden sanitary sewer, providing capacity relief and accommodating future growth in this expanding urban area, including the University of Rochester campus. The final design conveys approximately 3.5 MGD of peak flows and includes a 1,400-linear-foot force main crossing beneath the Genesee River via directional drilling, minimizing surface disruption in this heavily trafficked area.
MRB Group worked closely with Monroe County Department of Environmental Services and project consultants to complete preliminary design, cost estimating, and permitting coordination, including parkland alienation and easement approvals. The project is funded in part through NYS EFC Engineering Planning and WIIA grants totaling $1.125 million.
Big Idea
