City of Buffalo Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements
The City of Buffalo’s aging wastewater treatment plant required significant upgrades to address operational challenges and improve long-term reliability. MRB Group assisted the City and Traylor & Associates in developing the engineering scope and budget for a Texas General Land Office funding application, helping secure approximately $10.8 million in grant funding for the project.
MRB Group evaluated existing facility conditions and population projections before designing a new 0.32 MGD aerobic activated sludge treatment system. Improvements included replacing three existing treatment units with a new dual-train facility featuring two 26-foot clarifiers, along with a new influent screening facility, electrical upgrades, operations building, laboratory, chlorine gas storage, new blowers, and site improvements.
Design was completed in 2023, with construction beginning in July 2024. The new wastewater treatment plant became operational in January 2026 and was completed with no contract change orders.
