Henrietta Fire Station No. 5
Rochester, NY
The growing neighborhood served by the Henrietta Fire District’s Station 5 requires changes to the emergency equipment and vehicles stored there. In addition, paid firefighters were hired to assist the volunteers. Alternative site locations as well as designs for renovations and additions to the existing facility were evaluated by HBT before the District decided to demolish the old station and build a new one on the same site. Respectful of the residential neighborhood, the apparatus bays are located at the rear of the hilly site. One-way traffic circulation on the one-acre site allows for drive-through apparatus bays. In addition to the bays, this area includes a day room / kitchen, turnout lockers, a fitness room, bunk rooms, and a storage mezzanine.
BIG IDEA
Replacing an existing station with a facility that fits the surrounding neighborhood.
