Gorham Free Library

After many years of providing Library services with limited space and flexibility, the Gorham Free Library elected to study various options of how to better utilize their current space and define their future needs. MRB Group began collaborating with the Library in 2019 by documenting area shortages and identifying under-utilized spaces. The conclusion reached was that a building addition would best solve their current and future space needs.
The proposed building addition will add 1,760 square feet, and is positioned at the rear of the building in order to retain the architectural and historical qualities of the existing mid-eighteenth century structure. The two story addition will accommodate a main new Children’s Library and program room on the main level, Historical Society storage at the
lower level, and a new stairwell.
The addition features a masonry base and composite board and batten siding to complement the existing historical structure. A large central window bay will provide natural light in the Children’s Library and provide an opportunity to reflect on the surrounding countryside.
