MRB Group President Ryan Colvin, P.E., recently announced the addition of George Kalkowsky, PE, and William Guida to the firm’s engineering team in Syracuse. Both will be supporting communities with water and wastewater systems in the greater Onondaga County area.

Kalkowsky brings direct experience to MRB Group client communities as a former Water Superintendent for the City of Oneida, which serves more than 4000 households, businesses and industries. While serving as the Chief Operator and directing a staff of 16, he was responsible for managing an annual budget of more than $3 Million.

“With George’s level of direct experience, our clients will receive the benefit of his greater understanding of what it takes to maintain operations within fiscal constraints,” said Colvin.

“George is uniquely prepared to help communities who, especially now, are in need of innovations and recommendations for efficiencies to lower their costs,” Colvin stated. “We are really pleased to have George on the MRB Group engineering team, and for our clients to be able to benefit from his hands-on experience in the delivery of services,” he said.

Kalkowsky has been active in professional peer organizations, and in 2018 served as President of the Syracuse Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). More recently, he is serving as Co-chair of the ACSE committee currently preparing the 2020 edition of its New York State Infrastructure Report Card, a document which evaluates the condition of the state’s infrastructure with recommended solutions to improve it.

In his experience as a civil engineer, Guida has assisted communities in the Onondaga County area serving as Owner’s representative and construction observer for numerous projects for both water and wastewater systems.

“As recipient of a number of academic and personal achievement awards, William has proven his ability to innovate and lead,” said Colvin. “His technical skills, design capabilities and strengths will support system analysis, utility and site layout, stakeholder coordination, bidding and construction phase services and construction administration, including documentation to support grant-funded project reimbursement,” said Colvin, noting that Guida’s accomplishments include securing funding through the Environmental Facilities Corporation for a number of significant projects.
“William understands how local municipalities rely upon funding support from external resources,” Colvin continued. “He also understands how to support this process, in order to maximize and expedite reimbursements to communities,” Colvin stated.

Like Kalkowsky, Guida is also active in support of peer organizations, having served as Vice President of the Syracuse University Chapter of the ASCE.

“With so many similarities and remarkable achievements, it’s a tremendous opportunity for these two strong individuals to complement each other, working together in Syracuse to support our growing network of client communities,” Colvin concluded.

MRB Group has served communities across New York State since 1927, providing engineering, architecture, and general municipal services and supporting day-to-day municipal operations. Some local governments have worked with the firm and its engineering and planning teams for more than 50 consecutive years.

Today, MRB Group team members assist more than 150 communities with long term planning and engineering for maintenance of critical assets like water and wastewater treatment, support for public works services, and architecture for rehabilitation of public facilities, as well as strategic and capital planning, planning board services, and both community and economic development.
